The latest version is Delphi 13. It has improved developer productivity and incorporated AI technology with new Delphi version. The premier RAD environment from Embarcadero has seen extensive development throughout the years.

Overview

Delphi is a Rapid Application Development (RAD) environment. It has more than 30 years of evolution. It was first released in 1995. Since then, businesses have been creating applications across Windows, macOS, Linux, and web.

Delphi is very suitable for enterprise systems. It was designed around native compilation and visual design. Delphi has grown from Windows desktop development to cross-platform user interfaces. It supports REST-based architecture and modern deployment.

The latest Delphi version, Delphi 13, introduces a 64-bit IDE on Windows. It also brings multiple Object Pascal language enhancements and improved IDE usability. And it has AI development capabilities now.

Delphi Version Changes: From Borland Delphi to Modern Embarcadero Delphi

The narrative surrounding Delphi versions represents a number of transitions. It started off as Borland Delphi in 1995 and used its VCL to focus on Windows programming. Its core value proposition was fast visual development combined with native performance. But it quickly led to widespread adoption.

CodeGear took control in 2006. The company introduced Delphi Prism for .NET and emphasised cross-platform functionality. Then, Delphi was acquired by Embarcadero in 2008. The company positioned it as a multi-platform development environment within RAD Studio.

One of the most important things Embarcadero did was the introduction of FireMonkey. It enabled cross-platform development from a single codebase. Since then, Delphi releases have expanded platform support and modernized the IDE. Delphi continuously gets language, database and cloud integration capabilities improved.

Delphi Version Main Changes

Since its launch in 1995, Delphi has seen substantial changes. Every successive iteration has improved on the one before it. Each brings in new features that change the way software engineers design applications.

Delphi 1

Delphi 1 was a new standard for Windows development. The release occurred in February 1995. It combined Object Pascal and the VCL (Visual Component Library). They were delivering RAD for Win16 applications. Developers could design UIs and produce compiled native code. This approach significantly reduced development time compared to C or C++ workflows. And it established Delphi’s foundation as a RAD tool.

Delphi 7

Delphi 7 was one of the most widely used versions in Delphi history. Developers created it during the Windows XP era. And developers value its IDE stability and predictable behavior in long-term projects. Many enterprise systems still maintain Delphi 7.

Delphi 2007

Delphi 2007 was also an important milestone. It had improved IDE and database tooling. This version also introduced early Unicode support preparation. Basically, it laid the groundwork for internationalization. This version worked on dbExpress and provided a more flexible database access layer.

After these changes, Delphi projects could integrate more reliably with enterprise databases.

Delphi XE

With Delphi XE, FireMonkey arrived. It was a new framework designed for cross-platform development. Initially targeting Windows and macOS, FMX later expanded to iOS and Android. It allowed developers to reuse business logic and UI across desktop and mobile.

Delphi 10 Seattle

Delphi 10 Seattle added official Windows 10 support and introduced Getlt Package Manager. It simplified access to libraries and components. This release focused on developer productivity and ecosystem integration.

Delphi 11 Alexandria

Delphi 11 strengthened High DPI support and improved Code Insight. It also expanded platform compatibility. These updates improved UI scaling on modern displays. Also, they enhanced editor help for large codebases. Delphi 11 added better support for macOS hardware.

Delphi 12 Athens

Code Insight and the High DPI IDE were improved to make everyday work smoother. The IDE handled modern UI controls better. It worked more reliably with the latest Windows versions, REST APIs and cloud services.

Delphi 13 Florence

Latest Delphi version was released as RAD Studio 13 Florence in September 2025. It introduces new language features and built-in AI tools. It brings upgrades in VCL, FMX, and web technologies. It’s a step forward for modern and AI-enabled development. Delphi 13 also includes a native ternary operator and new compiler directives.

A Delphi 13 license includes access to many earlier Delphi versions. For example, Delphi 7, Delphi 2007, Delphi XE and Delphi 10. This might be important for teams that maintain long-lived systems. For them, supporting and modernizing the code is often more realistic than a full rewrite.

The Future of Delphi

It seems like Delphi has a bright future. Delphi continues to grow through Embarcadero’s consistent effort to modernize the platform. This puts it in a great position to be a useful and potent tool for developers for years to come. Because Delphi is flexible and efficient, it adapts well as development practices evolve.

Recent versions show steady IDE improvements and a stronger focus on AI-assisted development.
